With the construction of new Visitor Center and Administration buildings, Edsel & Eleanor Ford House will enhance the experience for our visitors, preserve the historic core of estate, and expand our environmental focus.
This is the first major alteration to the estate in 25 years, and the largest new construction since the home was built. The plans for this project were announced in winter 2017, and construction is underway.
Stay up-to-date with the planning and construction of this significant project. Explore the plans, construction and design progress on our blog, and learn more about this exciting new development at Ford House!
A NEW EXPERIENCE
COMING SOON TO FORD HOUSE
THE NEW VISITOR CENTER
The new 40,000-square-foot visitor center will be a two-story building in the location of the current visitor center, with space for enhancing the orientation, education and overall experience for Ford House visitors.
Relocating our operational activities to a specially designed administration building will take that heavy use out of the house. It will also allow us the opportunity to restore historic spaces, including those that once housed the staff quarters. Once restored, we will be able to bring to life the ‘behind the scenes’ story of the estate.
THE ESTATE IS OPEN!
Ford House will continue to be open during the construction period.
Visitor arrival will be temporarily located in the Historic Garage, with nearby parking provided.
Annual events such as the DSO at Ford House, holiday tours and programs, Eyes on Design, Mutt March, Pooch Prance and more will continue. And we will have programs focusing on the National Historic Landmark-designated landscape design, the gardens and the Fords' historic home.
